Rabbit Cage Cleaners

Maintaining a sanitary environment is essential to your rabbits health. Rabbit waste will degrade into ammonia, a smelly toxin. Although there is no substitute for regularly changing the bedding and cleaning the enclosure by hand, there are many cage cleaners that can help make this process easier and more effective.

Rabbit cages should be thoroughly cleaned every few days. If you aren't using commercial cage cleaners, you can use a white vinegar solution. Cage cleaners are preferable to vinegar, as your rabbit will find the strong vinegar smell as unpleasant as you do. If the vinegar is not completely wiped away after cleaning, the rabbit may avoid the areas where it was used. Commercial cage cleaners are able to deliver the same antiseptic cleaning power as vinegar without the strong smell.

When cleaning the rabbit cage, remove all bedding and thoroughly wipe down the entire cage with whichever cage cleaner you are using. Be sure to check under the litterbox to make sure waste has not accumulated underneath it. Clean food and water bowls with soap or cage cleaners. In addition to periodically cleaning the entire cage, you should check the bedding for accumulated waste, empty and rinse food and water bowls, and remove any organic matter that might decay.

Cage cleaners make all these tasks easier because they are specifically designed to break down the compounds that make up animal waste. Most cage cleaners are lightly scented to give the cage an odor that will be pleasant to you and your rabbit. You don't need cage cleaners to provide a healthy environment for your rabbit, but the savings in time and effort make them a worthwhile purchase for most rabbit owners.
